These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our Website, digital downloads, physical acting editions, educational materials, and performance licensing services. By accessing, browsing, creating an account, or purchasing from this Website, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use this Website.

1. The Perusal Rule: Purchase Is Not a Performance License

CRITICAL LEGAL NOTICE:

The purchase of an acting edition (whether in digital PDF or physical print format) conveys a single-user, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to read and peruse the work for personal study only.

  • No Performance Rights Included: A retail purchase does not convey any right to stage, perform, record, broadcast, livestream, or read the script before an open, assembled, or ticketed audience.
  • License Requirement: Any public presentation—whether amateur or professional, non-profit or commercial, ticketed or free—requires an executed Performance License Agreement and the full payment of all required royalties prior to the first rehearsal or public performance.
  • Statutory Liability: Presenting any MythScripts play before an audience without an active, written performance license constitutes copyright infringement under United States and international law, subjecting the producing organization, individual producers, and venue to statutory damages and legal liabilities.
  • Private Reading Exemption: Non-commercial, informal readings conducted strictly within private residences among family and friends—where no public invitation is extended and no admission or donations are collected—are exempt from licensing requirements.

2. Intellectual Property & Proprietary Rights

All content available on this Website—including but not limited to dramatic texts, acting editions, stage directions, ritual guides, historical source annotations, pronunciation guides, logos, artwork, cover designs, and marketing copy (collectively, the "Proprietary Materials")—is the exclusive intellectual property of Hannah Rebecca Carlson and MythScripts.

  • Copyright Protection: All materials are protected under United States copyright laws, international copyright conventions, and the Berne Convention.
  • Digital Watermarking & Tracing: To deter unauthorized reproduction and piracy, digital editions (PDFs) may contain identifying forensic watermarks and purchase-tracking markers linked to the original buyer. Tampering with, removing, or altering these watermarks is strictly prohibited.
  • Prohibition on Unauthorized Copying: You may not photocopy, duplicate, scan, host, email, or distribute digital or physical script copies to cast members, students, or third parties. Authorized multi-cast bundles must be purchased through our shop or secured via an executed production license.
  • Script Integrity: You may not cut, rewrite, rearrange, re-gender, or create derivative works from our scripts without express, prior written consent from MythScripts.
  • AI & Automated Scraping Prohibition: You are strictly prohibited from copying, scraping, feeding, or ingesting any text, imagery, or annotations from this Website or our publications into machine learning models, large language models (LLMs), artificial intelligence systems, or automated data extraction engines.

3. Commercial Terms & Store Policies

  • Pricing & Availability: All prices listed are in U.S. Dollars (USD) and are subject to change without notice. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue titles, collections, or licensing tiers at any time.
  • Payment Processing: Payments are processed securely via trusted third-party payment gateways (including Stripe, PayPal, and Squarespace Payments). You agree to provide current, complete, and accurate purchase and account details.
  • Digital Downloads: All digital acting editions are delivered via immediate download links. Due to the irrecoverable nature of digital media, all sales of digital PDF scripts are final and non-refundable.
  • Physical Returns: Eligible physical print editions in new, unread, and undamaged condition may be returned within 30 days of delivery pursuant to our Return & Refund Policy.

4. Performance Licensing Applications

  • Submission Accuracy: When applying for performance rights, you agree to provide truthful and accurate information regarding your producing organization, venue seating capacity, ticket pricing structures, and scheduled performance counts.
  • Right of Refusal: MythScripts reserves the right to approve or deny any performance licensing application at its sole discretion (e.g., in cases of geographic rights conflicts, competing productions, or non-compliance with billing guidelines).
  • Media & Livestreaming: Standard performance licenses cover live, in-person staging only. Video recording, broadcasting, or livestreaming requires an additional, executed Media Rider.

5. Unsolicited Submissions Policy

MythScripts does not accept or consider unsolicited play scripts, adaptations, treatments, or story pitches.

Any unsolicited creative materials sent through our contact forms, email addresses, or social media channels will be deleted immediately without review. By sending unsolicited creative material despite this policy, you acknowledge and agree that MythScripts and Hannah Rebecca Carlson owe you no compensation, credit, or fiduciary duty, and you waive any claims of idea theft, copyright infringement, or misappropriation.

6. User Conduct & Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Website to:

  • Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Circumvent, disable, or tamper with security-related features, digital rights management (DRM), or download limits.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Website, server infrastructure, or customer accounts.
  • Misrepresent your affiliation with an educational institution, producing company, or theatrical venue when purchasing scripts or requesting licenses.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

This Website and all materials, scripts, and services provided herein are offered on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. MythScripts makes no warranty that our digital delivery systems will be uninterrupted, error-free, or entirely free of harmful technical components, though we take all standard commercial precautions.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Hannah Rebecca Carlson, MythScripts, or its contractors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages—including loss of profits, box-office revenue, production expenses, goodwill, or data—arising out of or connected with your use of the Website, inability to access digital downloads, or production of our dramatic works.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Hannah Rebecca Carlson, MythScripts, and its affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, unauthorized production of our dramatic works, or copyright infringement.

10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms and any disputes arising out of or related to your use of the Website or purchases shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms shall be instituted exclusively in the federal or state courts located in Orange County, California, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction thereof.
